Kim Haines-Eitzen

Kim Haines-Eitzen is the Hendrix Memorial Professor of Early Christianity and Early Judaism at Cornell University. She is the author of four books, including Sonorous Desert: What Deep Listening Taught Early Christian Monks—and What It Can Teach Us, which was a Seminary Co-Op Notable Book of the Year, Winner of the American Book Fest Best Book Award (Religion Category), and made the cut for The New Yorker’s “Briefly Noted.” This book, along with her more recent The Gospel of John: A Biography, were published with Princeton University Press.

She has written for a wide range of media outlets, including The Conversation, the San Francisco Chronicle, the Philadelphia Inquirer, and the Huffington Post. She appears regularly on radio shows and podcasts, including interviews with Robin Young on PBS’s Here & Now, The Matt Townsend Show, Dave DeSteno’s How God Works, John Kelly’s Elevation, The Commonweal Podcast, Luminous, Contemplify, and Misquoting Jesus with Bart D. Ehrman. She also appeared in National Geographic’s The Story of God with Morgan Freeman.

She was born in Jerusalem and grew up in Nazareth, and she now lives in rural central New York and remote southeastern Arizona. She is currently writing about how ancient apocalyptic literatures can help us understand our contemporary world.
